Abortion: Promote Deliverance, Not Debate

Satans primary work is to promote confusion, deception and division. Christians have been called to be salt and light, to boldly and lovingly instruct Gods truth to the deceived so restoration can occur.

Abortion is a counterfeit scheme rooted in convenience and deception. According to independent news agency LifeNews.com, more than 57 million abortions have been performed in America since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortions in all 50 states at any time or any reason throughout pregnancy. The deception promoted is a perceived convenience from being shackled to an inconvenient situation. However, such conveniences do not liberatethey only enslave and create broken people.

Abortion, a heavily debated pro-life vs. pro-choice issue, yet, few peoples lives have been transformed by a debate. A more effective focus would be to aid in the deceived persons deliverance from deception.

In a society that largely pursues convenience and freedom at all costs, how should we, the Body of Christ and the Church, respond to abortion in a democratic society?

1. God makes it clear that He hates the shedding of innocent blood. There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, (Prov. 6:16-17). Oppositely, for those whove aborted a child, God makes clear His love for us and that Jesus paid the price for our sins which includes abortion. Anyone can be forgiven if they put their trust in Him and sincerely call upon His holy name.

2. Address abortion from the finished work of the Crossnot picketing the clinic. Abortion should no longer be an us (pro-life) vs. them (pro-choice) debate. While many are intent to picket, Gods intention is to draw men unto Him and transform hearts. We must have compassion for the deceived and let them know true freedom begins from the finished work of the Cross that brings truth to deception, breaks chains, and delivers. This is done through sharing Gods Word (not a feel good Gospel) so restoration can replace confusion.

3. Abortion is not a political or moral issue. Its a God issue. God is the Creator and Giver of Life. Every person bears the image of God (Gen. 1:26-27) and Satan constantly seeks to destroy that image. Life and purpose begins before conception. God told Jeremiah, Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you (Jer. 1:5).

4. Share the burden. As Christians we should encourage society to share the burden for what brought the mother to the unplanned pregnancynot destroy life based on inconvenience of the situation. Its not about the quality of life but rather, the value of life. Kingdom-mindedness vs. convenience-mindedness. Many women have issues that led to the abortion and issues post-abortion. We should aid the afflictedthe mother and her unborn child. Our society has left these women holding the bag for a burden we all should help lift from her.

There is a lot a pressure to abort when the pregnancy is not ideal, says Jill Tomlinson, author of No More Lies. Our society of convenience doesnt want disruption to how they are living. I look at my daughter Ashley, now 24, and I see the grace of God in her life. I see her doing the things that God has created her to do. Thank God that He ordered my steps, for I was deceived, says Tomlinson of her unplanned pregnancy.

Tomlinson has ministered to many women who have aborted a child. It is a heavy weight women carry in their hearts, says Tomlinson. The enemy convinces them that they are unredeemable, causing them to live under heavy oppression and shame. Many of these women are unable to let it go and dont believe they can receive anything else from God, particularly forgiveness.

Convenience and false freedoms deliver a heavy price. Our goal is for those shackled by situations or poor choices to be delivered not by convenience or debate, but by the One who paid it all.
