The Value of Manhood

20150616 C+K Publishing - GOSPEL TODAY

Genesis 2:4, 5 states the following: This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the Lord God made the earth and the heavensand no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground.

Close examination of these verses may cause one to ponder how certain things had not yet manifested in the earth as a part of creation. Genesis, Chapter 1 confirms that God had created everything and called it good. God created the heavens and the earth, the sun and the stars, and even vegetation along with animals. Everything seemed to be in its created place according to the purpose for which it was created. Yet, in the second chapter it is revealed that no shrub or plant had yet sprung upon the earth. It is further revealed that the reason for this limitation was because God had not sent rain on the earth. It is understood that plants will not grow without water. However, it is obvious that God had a very specific reason for not sending rain on the earth; the reason being that there was no man to work the ground.

Let us surmise that God created everything with a purpose. Purpose then validates the existence of the thing created and also solidifies where it is to fit. In other words, where something fits is always tied to its purpose. For example, there is a place where a husband fits and it is tied to the purpose for a husband. In similar fashion, where something fits also identifies the contribution it is to make. The sun was created to rule the day and its contribution is warmth and light. When something makes its contribution, it is needed. And when something is needed or necessary, it now has value. Value is not tied to the title or name of something, but rather to the contribution and necessity of the thing created. Value implies that something is so necessary that one cannot do without it!

The writer reveals that God made the heavens and the earth, but did not allow any shrub of the field to appear on the earth. In addition, God did not allow any plant to spring up or grow on the earth. Everything God created was necessary and therefore valuable, but He limited the fulfillment of the created things purpose because something of more value was yet missing. It is revealed that God even withheld the rain from the earth because rain would initiate the blooming process of plants and shrubs. All of this was done because something of value was missing and it is revealed that the missing component was the man. In fact, the point is made that there was no man to the work the ground. Obviously, the man was valuable to God because He needed someone to work the ground.

From this account, the following revelation is revealed concerning the purpose for the man: he was needed to fulfill a purpose. Genesis 2: 15 explains this fullyThe Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to take care of it. This is the purpose for the man. This is where manhood fits. This is where manhood is needed and this is what makes the male-man valuable. This is very important because men have lost the truth about what makes them valuable. Put another way, men need to be taught that their value always comes from their fulfillment of their created purpose. Anything outside of its created purpose cannot bring God glory. When the thing created by God fulfills the purpose for which He created it, God is glorified. Men must be reminded again that they are needed and necessary. However, their being valued and appreciated will only be the result of their fulfillment of their purposeto work the ground and everything on it!
